Standard Yaquina Head Area map with You Are Here marker at the trailhead down to the Quarry Cove area. Yaquina Head is a narrow headland of basaltic rock at the north end of Newport, Oregon. The 100-acre Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area was established in 1980 by Congress. Quarry Cove was a rock quarry supplying rock materials for U.S. Hwy. 100 from the 1920s to the 1980s. In 1994 the quarry was turned in to a man-made, wheel chair-accessible, tidepools, but the Ocean instead filled the cove with sand.
