Ponce de Leon, Missouri is located about 20 miles southwest of Springfield in Stone County. The community was founded in 1882. There was a health resort located in the town named after the explorer and the community took its name from the resort. The community has a few homes and two churches, Ponce Baptist Church and Ponce Pentecostal Church. For several years residents of the area have referred to the community as "Poncie" and the full name is seldom used.
