This informational sign titled “California Sea Lions - Regular Newport Visitors” is located on the pier west of the Undersea Gardens. The sign deals with the life cycle of the California sea lions. The males spend from late August to early June in northern waters including here in Yaquina Bay. During the summer months they migrate south to join the females for the breeding season. Males reach a length of eight feet and can weigh up to 1000 pounds while females only reach six feet and about 250 pounds. There is also information on the Marine Mammal Protection Act. A nearby sign deals with the effects of marine pollution.
