From the Theater History webpage:
The IMAX® Theatre is located inside the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the world’s largest and oldest military aviation museum. Located near Dayton, Ohio, the museum welcomes 1.2 million visitors each year. The museum’s galleries present military aviation history, boosting more than 300 aircraft and aerospace vehicles–many rare and one-of-a-kind, thousands of historical items and powerful sensory exhibits that bring history to life and connect the Wright brothers’ legacy with today’s stealth technology.
Opened on May 5, 1991, this 500-seat IMAX® large screen format theater for the National Museum helps to bring the aviation history to life. The IMAX® classic film, “To Fly” was our opening film, with “The Dream is Alive” also showing on opening day. The Foundation funded and built this $7.5 million project which included an 80-foot high atrium over a new lobby, which serves as the architectural focal point of the entire museum complex. The funds for this facility were from revenues generated in the gift shop, café and membership program over several years and prudent investment of these resources until they were needed. An admission fee is charged by the Foundation which operates the theater.
Some of the aviation films shown include “On the Wing”, “Destiny in Space”, “The Dream is Alive”, “Fires of Kuwait”, “To Fly”, “Skyward”, “Silent Sky” “Cosmic Voyage” , “Roving Mars”, and “The Magic of Flight”.
