Located a little to the south of Phuket City (not to be confused with the hedonistic, beach culture on the west coast of the island) is Chalong Temple. This is the main temple of Phuket, and something of a tourist attraction. The wihan/meeting hall (used by those other than monks) of this temple has a date of construction and renovation over the main entrance. These dates are 2497 in the Bhuddist Era, which corresponds to 1954 in the Common Era, while the date of renovation is 2531/1988.
Entry to the temple grounds is free, though a donation is always the done thing to do.
Year of construction: 2497
