The work was created in 1922 and represents a Venus, seated, with an olive branch in his right hand, giving the prize to the glorious French that died for their country. It´s casted in lead and placed in the Carrousel gardens in the Tuileries near the Louvre. It´s part of a large number of Maillol´s statues exposed in open air.

The model was Dina Vierny, Maillol´s model for the last 10 years of his life.
