Allie Pierce Reynolds
Feb. 10, 1917 - Dec. 27, 1994
An athlete and humanitarian. A common man. Who quietly, lovingly and with humor took great care of his family and friends.
Hail to the Chief

According to wikipedia:

Allie P. Reynolds was born on a reservation in 1917 in Bethany, OK to a preacher father who did not like baseball because it meant playing on Sundays. He played football and track at Capitol Hill High School, and fast-pitched softball for his father's church team (which did not play on Sundays). Reynolds attended Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical College (A&M) which is now Oklahoma State University, graduating with a degree in education and playing football for the school. The OK A&M baseball coach took notice of Allie while he was throwing the javelin, and asked him to try pitching. Allie was the captain of the baseball team his senior year. He was drafted by the New York Giants to play football, but opted out because he felt he could earn more money playing baseball.

Reynolds played for the Cleveland Indians from 1942-1946 and the New York Yankees from 1947-1954. He retired in 1954 due to a back injury suffered when the Yankees bus crashed in Philadelphia.

"He married Dale Earleane Jones, who was Capitol Hill High School's most outstanding female athlete, on July 7, 1935."

Reynolds was a six-time MLB All-Star and six-time World Series champion. He won the Hickok Belt in 1951 as the top American professional athlete of the year. He has been inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, and OSU has named their baseball field after him.
