Crow Wing State Park is approximately 3115 acres of history, culture and nature. The park was created in 1959 and a great deal of research was done to document the park's extensive history. The park encompasses the area where the Crow Wing and Mississippi River merges. During the 1700's, the area was home to Native American's, a major battle between the Sioux and Ojibwe as fought here. In the mid 1800's the area was home to Old Crow Wing, a thriving village of over 600. However, the town was deserted and abandoned after the railroad chose nearby Brainerd to cross the Mississippi.
The park ranger's office has lots of information for the visitor, sells wood and ice, manages the park and campground, and serves as an office for park staff.
