Anne Frank was born in Germany in 1929. Her family moved to Amsterdam when the Nazis came to power. In 1942, the family went into hiding as the German occupiers hunted Jews to be sent to concentration camps. The Franks and another family hid in "The Secret Annex" of a factory around the block from this statue. The home is now a museum. In 1994, the Germans found them and Anne was sent to Bergen-Belson Concentration Camp (along with her sister) where she died at age 15 in 1945. The family who had hidden the Franks found Anne's diary and preserved it. It has been read by millions in many languages....and is notable for the amazing insight not shared by many young teens.
