Portmeirion is the village, now a hotel and tourist attraction built in the 1920's and 1930's by the architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. He populated it with buildings and statues, many salvaged from old buildings around the UK that were being torn down.
The 1967-1968 TV series "The Prisoner" featured Patrick McGoohan as the resigned secret agent abducted to "The Village" a bizarre island from which there was no escape and where he became "Number 6". Except for the trees growing, the village hasn't changed much in the years since "The Prisoner" was filmed - there is still a Prisoner Shop featuring Prisoner memorabilia and the hotel carries Prisoner episodes on their TV system.
While we were staying there it was announced that a remake is being planned for release in 2007 although it won't be filmed at Portmeirion.
