Marker in the entrance to the Elks building marks the site the 1913 meeting at which the Alaska's Territorial Legislature was organized.

The marker is hidden from view casual view of passersby, inside a small alcove at the front of the old Elks building just above the tourist district on Franklin Street.
Marker reads:
Alaska's first legislature met in this building on March 3, 1913. Named President of the Senate was L.V. Ray of Seward, and named Speaker of the House was Earnest B. Collins of Fox.
