Somdej (Princess) Phra Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani, in full, was the mother of the King of Thailand, Rama IX. Born in 1900, she lived to see two of her sons ascend the throne of Thailand. Over course of her life she was involved with a wide range of social welfare and assistance programs for Thai people, making her a much loved figure in the kingdom. She passed away in 1995.
information obtained from wikipedia, and conversations with Thai nationals.
This statue of the King's mother is located in a major wat ~15kms to the south of the resort City of Pattaya. This is Wat Yansangwararam, easily reached by taxi or tourist bus from Pattaya. The statue is located just inside the main entrance. The princess is depicted in what seems to be her normal poise. She is seated, dressed informally in shirt and pants, and gazes outwards. The statue is on a small mound, and approached along a short causeway from the entrance road. As is also usual, she is separated from visitors not by a plinth, but by a mound of earth, that raises her above her surrounds. I would assume that her statue is bronze. There is no plaque, which is unusual. The princess is shown near life-sized.
