The 1893 Ordnance Survey map says:-

However, the milestone reveals more about it's location than that.
Early OS maps would suggest that this milestone originally stood on the other side of the A1(M) close to the Star Inn which is no longer there. Modern OS maps show a milestone at the original site and have not yet caught up with the change.
