This fairly large cemetery has several interesting monuments. A pure questimate would suggest there are about 1,000 gravesites here. Unfortunately for English speakers, almost all the memorials are engraved in Ukrainian.
The Cemetery's website (
visit link) has the following summary:
"Located behind the Memorial Church, St. Andrew Cemetery contains the mortal remains of the Hierarchs and clergy of the church, along with poets, artists, musicians, architects, doctors, lawyers, teachers and men and women of all professions, all of whom await their own resurrection to eternal life, under the shadow of the Memorial Church cross.
Annually, on the Sunday after Paskha (Easter, according to the Julian computation) thousands gather here for the Liturgy and Memorial Services celebrated for the repose of the souls of the departed. The honor paid to the departed emphasized the sacredness and dignity of life. In addition, we are reminded of their constant struggle for independence and human rights, and of the spiritual and cultural heritage which we, their heirs, are to pass on to future generations.
On the grounds of the cemetery are two monuments by Petro Kapschutschenko: one to Metropolitan Basyl Lipkivsky, and one to Princess Olha of Ukraine, one of the first royals to adopt christianity and who influenced Prince Volodymyr."
