Nils Holgersson is a famous figure from "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils" written by Selma Lagerlöf in year 1906-1907. It was a book about swedish geography but became very popular and was translated to many languages.
The sculpture is made of bronze and was erected 24 november 2006 (exactly 100 year from the first copy of the book "Nils Holgerssons underbara resa" was published) by the artist Ralf Boselius. The name of the sculpture is "Sprungen ur boken" (Leaped out of the book).
The sculpture is meant to show Nils in the correct size, small enough to ride on a goose (as in the book) throughout Sweden.
