The city is located in Imperial county about 5 miles from El Centro. The city sits on the Mexican border and its name is a portmanteau of California “Cal~” and Mexico “~exico.” The population in 2010 was 38,572.
The city hall building was built in 1995. The old city hall is a block south from here and is now the Mexican Consulate. Behind the city hall is a large park. In front of the building is a time capsule.
