Out doing some caching with Goonie Nanny and PopPop55k in an area just east of Albion, Pa. We were on West Road and had just passed Crossingville Road (how appropriate) when we saw this little guy making his way across the road.
Stopped and took a picture of him with the GPS and he quickly retreated into his shell. He appeared to be a Painted Turtle. Probably an Eastern Painted Turtle according to the pictures.
Not a busy road in that area, and he did not appear to have any problems getting across. Looking at the Topo Maps, there is a stream nearby that he was probably headed to.

Describe what happened. Example
"Mother Blanding had made her nest between the goldenrod and bluestem outside my window late last June.
By chance we were sitting on the porch when we noticed little blandings in the same location we had seen the mother take 2 months earlier."
