The Aitkin Carnegie Library was completed in 1911. The city of Aitkin received a grant of $6,500 from Andrew Carnegie on April 23, 1908. The one-story Classical Revival style building was designed by Madison, Wisconsin-based architectural firm of Claude & Starck. Claude & Starck. The firm was known for designing public libraries in Wisconsin and Minnesota during this era, with 25 libraries credited to the firm. The building is constructed of buff-colored bricks with a red tile roof.
After serving for the as Aitkin's public library for several years the building has now been converted to the Jaques Art Center which the art of renowned wildlife artist Francis Lee Jaques.
