It's a case of inappropriate placing of the sign right next to a narrow set of steps leading to a stile into a field. It would be very difficult to get even a push-bike through, it was bad enough just walking!
The footpath is signed on the wooden post opposite, carved into the post it says 'ALSTONEFIELD' and shows the way with a yellow arrow above.
The sign is really intended for Millway Lane, but even that is the back way to Alstonefield and there is no matching sign at the other end.
'Does what it says on the tin' refers to a well known brand of paint and outdoor timber treatments.
