The Dünsberg is an impressive monument of Central European prehistory.
Wall rings and broken walls enclose an area of 0.9 square kilometers.
Discoveries on the southern slopes of the mountain indicate a pre-Celtic settlement time.
In the late Bronze Age (8th century BC) was proven on the hilltop a kind of castle,
here was the proof of the metal, ceramic finds and the remains of walls are closed.
The dating of the middle wall of the three rings is uncertain, possibly, the construction took place during the Hallstatt period 500 BC, but he sure was in the second Century BC

Deutsche Beschreibung
Der Dünsberg ist ein eindrucksvolles Denkmal mitteleuropäischer Vorzeit.
Wallringe und verfallene Mauern umschließen eine Fläche von 0,9qkm.
Funde am Südhang des Berges deuten auf eine vorkeltische Besiedlungszeit.
Gegen Ende der Bronzezeit (8. Jh v. Chr.) entstand nachweislich auf der Bergkuppe eine Art Burganlage,
hier konnte der Nachweis aus den Metall-, Keramikfunden und den Resten eines Walls geschlossen werden.
Die Datierung des mittleren der drei Wallringe ist ungewiß, möglicherweise erfolgte der Bau während der Hallstattzeit 500 v. Chr. Sicher bestand er aber im 2. Jh vor Chr.
Mit dem Bau des untersten Walles etwa 100 v. Chr. vollzog sich der Ausbau der Siedlung zur keltischen Stadtanlage, zu einem Oppidum.
Von den Häusern innerhalb der Anlage ist kein Nachweis mehr erkennbar.
Das Oppidum auf dem Dünsberg war vermutlich der Hauptort eines Stammes.
Im letzen Jahrhunder vor Christus bricht die Welt der Kelten auseinander und die Germanen treten in die Geschichte ein.
Profesionelle archäologische Grabungen begann hier ab 1903.
Heute sind Teile der Wallanlage und Häuser durch den Verein für Archäologie im Gleiberger Land wieder aufgebaut.
