The human sundial requires the participation of a person to tell the time based on the direction their shadow casts under sun. It consists of two parts: (1) tiles with the 12 months of the year on them, and (2) tiles with the numbers of time. According to the sign by the human sundial, you are supposed to stand between the months next to the current month. If the sun is out, your shadow will then fall on tile marker for the current time. This makes YOU a human clock.
Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated: Measuring time by the position of the Sun.
Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?: Unfortunately the sun wasn't out the day I visited the Human Sundial, so I was unable to check out its effectiveness. It definitely would have been fun to check out on a day when the sun was out.
When is the apparatus/experiment available to the public: Year round, 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
