The plaque on the front of this building is for Dame Sybil Torndike. An actress that lived here from 1884 until 1892.

The Plaque reads

Dame Sybil Thorndike,
Freeman of the City of Rochester,
and her brother,
Russell Thorndike,
Lived in this house from,
1844 until 1892,
When their father,
The Rev A.J.W. Thorndike,
Was a minor Canon at the Cathedral.
