Colorado Territory (Colorado did not become a state until 1876) were strong Union supporters. Colorado Territory sent the largest number of volunteers for the Union during the Civil War. The veterans who returned and other veterans who came and settled in Colorado gave many honors to President Lincoln. One that is often overlooked is the naming of the streets the surround Colorado's capitol building Lincoln; Sherman and Grant!
This small park is just west of the Colorado capitol building and Lincoln Street is the boundary of the east side of the park. The park contains several monuments including Colorado Veterans Monument (
