The quaint rural community of Lyman (population 230) is nestled at the foot of Thousand Lake Mountain, at an elevation of 7,300 feet. Lyman is on U-24, 3.2 miles east of Loa, 5.3 miles north of Bicknell and about 18 miles west of Capitol Reef National Park. The Fremont River flows through the valley to the west. Imposing 11,306' Thousand Lake Mountain is located about six miles to the east.

The small ranching and farming community was originally settled in 1876 as Wilmouth, then was named East Loa, and finally Lyman to honor Apostle Francis M. Lyman, of the LDS Church, who eventually succeeded Brigham Young Jr. as President of the Quorum of Twelve.

Lyman has the shortest growing season in Wayne County. Visitors to the area enjoy fishing and hunting at Horse Valley and Neff’s Reservoir.

According to local residents, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hid out in a now abandoned Lyman house owned by the Chappel family while being pursued by a posse.

Visit Instructions:
To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
