Fonte das Lágrimas - Coimbra, Portugal - Natural Springs on Waymarking.com

This spring is located in Quinta das Lágrimas, a well know estate, famous for having been the scene of the love of Prince D. Pedro (future D. Pedro I of Portugal) and D. Inês de Castro.

Here are located the Fonte dos Amores (Foutain of Love) and the Fonte das Lágrimas (Fountain of Tears).

The designation of "Fonte dos Amores" is due to that, this place witnessed the love of D. Pedro, grandson of the holy Queen, by D. Inês, who served as chaperone to the wife of D. Pedro, D. Constança.

According to the legend, the name "Fonte das Lágrimas" is originated in the tears shed by Inês de Castro when she was killed.
