In Pawtucket's Slater Park, there is a new dog park that allows dogs to run around without their leashes. The area, named the Pawtucket Dog Park, was opened just a couple weeks before the visit (July 2011). The person behind the concessions at the carousel said that the area was previously lawn bowling pits (shucks, missed out on a category). Currently, there are two areas, one for small dogs (under 30 lbs), and one for large dogs (larger than 30 lbs).
There is a long list of rules for the area. Some of them are common sense, such as always be with the dogs and that dogs must have the required shots. Others may not be so common sense, such as no training of dogs are allowed, and children under 8 are not allowed in the area, and children under 14 are allowed with supervision. A picture of the rules are included, so read up on them and obey them when you go.
Slater Park is a fair-sized municipal park with a few roads in it. Follow the signs to the carousel. Plenty of parking is available right at the site, which is behind the yellow building which encloses the carousel. There is no admission charged for the main park or the dog area.
There were quite a few dogs and people there during the visit, so I think that the place will be a hit among people and pooches!
