Locally known as 'The Rifleman'. I'm just going down to 'The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn', would be something of a mouthful!

At 55 letters long, 'The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn' is certainly the longest pub name in the UK and no internet search that I have done throws up a longer one in the world.

I suspect (but have been unable to verify) that 'The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps', was a pals battalion formed during the WW1, when young men would volunteer to join the army as a group from their place of work, home town or even street. This pub is located in an area called Astley and a street called Astley Street.

This pub was the subject of a community buy-out when the brewery that owned it put it up for sale.

This pub needs a new sign.
