Independent coffee houses are a dime a dozen in the Bay Area, but this one is really something special. Their goal is to strive for coffee perfection. You won't see any super-automatic robot driven espresso machines here. Every drink is made by skilled baristas behind a traditional (not automatic) espresso machine.
The staff at Barefoot are as friendly as they are passionate about coffee. Many of the baristas compete in the United States Barista Championship and other regional competitions. They really love what they do, and they do an excellent job. When you order a cappuccino, you can expect a beautiful latte art rosetta pattern drawn on the top in microfoamed milk. They truly believe that coffee is an culinary artform, and it shows.
The cafe is located in an ugly commercial strip mall, but don't let that fool you. Inside is a cozy eclectic atmosphere of comfy leather couches and funky artistic tables and chairs. Watch their blog for information on upcoming live music shows. Also, they offer free coffee cupping on the first Saturday of every month, where you can learn to taste and appreciate the complex flavors of some of their best coffees.
If you love coffee, you will not be disappointed by Barefoot. They've been voted best coffeehouse in Silicon Valley every year since they've opened. By the way, you probably don't even need a GPS to find this place. Just follow the smell of the freshly roasting coffee.
