Mrs. Dena Barkman Funk was the first white woman born in Dickinson County. A bronze plaque was placed at her grave with the words: “Mrs. Dena Barkman Funk, first white woman born in Dickinson County. Erected by Ladies of the Lake Chapter D.A.R.” She was born in 1858 and died in 1912. The marker was placed beneath her memorial stone in Lakeview Cemetery on September 11, 1937.
