There has been a long time mystery of where these two were buried at. The two were murdered by the Santee Sioux Indians because the Sioux were under orders to clear all settlers from the Big Sioux River Valley. For years it was believed that the Amidons were buried where they fell but in 1991 Augustana College Archeology Lab was employed to excavate the burial mounds and nothing was found there. The location of the Amidon graves remains a mystery.
