The statue is located in Paternoster Square, a pedestrianised area between St Paul's Cathedral and the London Stock Exchange. The sculpture stands on a Portland stone plinth that has a brass plaque at one end. The plaque reads:
"Paternoster / by Elisabeth Frink (1930 - 1993) / Originally commissioned / by Paternoster Development Ltd / First unveiled by Yehudi Menuhin in 1975 / Reinstated by Mitsubishi Estate in 2003".
The sculpture shows a ram and four ewes walking ahead of a shepherd. The shepherd is unclothed. Sadly the top of the shepherd's crook has been removed so the hook is missing. Both man and sheep are life-size.
The sculpture was cast by the Meridian Bronze Company of London.
