This small arch over the pathway leading into the park and to the grave site may be small in size but it honors a man who looms large in history. Some know him as the earliest missionary in the Upper Great Lakes region, but almost everyone would recognize the Marquette of the Marquette and Jolliet expedition, the first Europeans to explore the Mississippi River. The arch compliments the grave site and statue that are just a few feet away.
