In 1937 the original plant opened on the Jilbert farm in Lake Linden, Michigan. At that time they processed 10,000 pounds of milk a month. In 1955 they moved to Calumet, Michigan, but with continued growth, in 1983 they moved to their current location in Marquette. That growth has resulted in their currently processing over 4,000,000 lbs. of milk per month.
They have a viewing area at the plant where visitors can watch some of the plant operations. They also have a retail store at the plant where all their retail products are available. The best thing is the ice cream counter where the best ice cream in the U.P. and far beyond is available. For those that believe in pigging out on ice cream, the 21 scoop "Pig Pen" is the ultimate in ice cream indulgences. for chocoholics, the Moose Tracks sundae special features Moose Tracks ice cream with hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry.
