The Stanley Hotel was founded by Freelan Oscar Stanley who was a founder with his twin brother, Francis, of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company. This model is a 1906 Model EX, 10 HP that had a top speed of 45 mph. We could call this an 'alternative fuel' vehicle since it ran on water using a small steam engine. Stanley built the road from Lyons, over which he brought visitors, riding in a Stanley Steamer to Estes Park and The Stanley Hotel. This makes the first time in history that an automobile, instead of a train, was used to transport people to a resort area. For more history of the hotel (

The Stanley Motor Carriage Company was a manufacturer of steam-engine vehicles; it operated from 1902 to 1924. The cars made by the company were colloquially called Stanley Steamers, although several different models were produced. For more information, (
