The Arizona State Capitol building, designed by James Riely Gordon, was constructed beginning in 1898, and completed in 1901. The capitol was expanded on the west side in 1918 and again in 1938. The capitol building was home to the Legislature until 1960, when the current house and senate buildings were constructed, and the Governor's Office until 1974, when the executive tower was built. The capitol building currently serves as a museum.
