The city of Imperial Beach is the southern-most city in the county. It's known as the most Southwest city in the United States. The city is a beachfront community. It's bordered by San Diego and Coronado. The city had a population of 26,324 in 2010.

The city was founded in 1887 and was incorporated in 1956. It was founded by farmers of neighboring Imperial Valley who moved west for the cooler weather. Also during the time when the Coronado Hotel was built, many laborers lived in Imperial Beach.

The city hall is located in the civic center. The center is a large structure on Imperial Beach Blvd. Across the way from the city hall building is a sheriff substation. Also on the facade of the building is a mosaic seal of the city. Across from the building is a nice large park.
