During the late 19th century, a large number of Italian stoneworkers flocked to the Barre area as the granite industry boomed.

Figure of a stone carver holding hammer and chisel. He wears a cloth cap, vest and an apron. A piece of raw stone is at his feet.

The Inscription:

SIRIS Listing says the subject is Carlo Abati. Inscription on the statue itself says it is DEDICATED to Abati, but there is no suggestion that he is the actual subject.
