Laflin Creek Cemetery is located east of the town of Alex. To reach the cemetery, head north out of Alex on Highway 19C (Alex Road). Just north of the river, turn right on Taylor Terrace and then right on River Road (County Road 1440). Then, turn south of Ireton Road (County Road 2960). The cemetery is located in the middle of a field. There is a decorative metal gate. You can drive in on a gravel lane, or park outside the gate and walk in.
We found this cemetery fascinating. It contains approximately 320 burials, the oldest we found occurring in 1882. It is still in use. We found two areas particularly interesting. There is a group of Goins Family graves where eight little baby graves tell a sad story of a man and woman losing a large number of children within days or weeks of birth. Life was tough back then! Another family, the Walthalls had a similar experience.
Don't be fooled by one Goins headstone - Rance Goins who is shown to have been born in 1802 and died in 1916 (114 yrs.) Research online reveals that the 1802 is incorrect.
Though difficult to get to, this cemetery is well worth a trip.
