The Frogner park with the Vigeland sculpture park is northwest of central Oslo. It contains 212 of sculptures by the Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures, centered on the theme of the cycle of life, are located along an 900 foot long rectangle set into a hillside and divided into five main units: Main Entrance, The Bridge with the children´s playground, The Fountain, The Monolith Plateau and The Wheel of Life. The Fountain occupies the plaza in the center of the rectangle below the Monolith.

This monumental bronze fountain was planned by Gustav Vigeland for many years. An artist plaster sketch first appeared in 1906. In 1947 the Fountain was completed at its permanent location in Frogner Park. Rising out of the basin is a black column. Six giants stand in a circle holding an enormous vessel. Water flows over the edge of the vessel, in front of the figures, and into the basin.

The stamp shows a view of the Fountain looking uphill towards the Monolith. It was issued by Norway in 1991 as part of a two stamp to promote tourism.
