Pico del Teide is the highest point on the island Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. It's also the highest mountain in Spain. It forms the main attraction of the Parque Nacional del Teide. It is situated in the centre of the island and reaches 3718 meters. From the top you have magnificent views at the Cañadas crater and the rest of the island. When the weather is good, you can see most of the other islands of the archipelago.
To get to the summit takes a strenuous hike. To climb all the way up (1400 m altitude difference, about 4-6 hours hike), start at the base of Montaña Blanca (28° 15.568'N 16° 36.198'W, limited parking space). For an "easy" visit, take the Teleférico del Teide to La Rambleta. From there the final climb takes about 20 minutes. To climb the summit you need a free permit that can be obtained at the office in Santa Cruz or online.
