Lawrie Cemetery in rural Guthrie was once adjacent to Charity Baptist Church. Built in 1915, the church building burned down and was never replaced. This is a five-acre cemetery surrounded by a chain link fence.
There are six Kimblers buried here. According to the dates, a Father and Mother, three offspring, and a daughter-in-law. This homemade headstone is for daughter, Sally Maude Kimbler, born in the year of Oklahoma statehood, 1907, who died in 1965. In that year, the parents had already passed on, and a surviving brother may have been the family member responsible for this homemade marker.
It is rather unusual as it is carved out of the red Oklahoma sandstone you see in so many buildings in the early settlement of Oklahoma. The marker has a rounded top and reads:
KIMBLER
DAU
SALLY MAUDE
1907 - 1965
Date of Birth: 1907
Date of Death: 1965
Material: Stone
