This cavern is probably the most 'developed' cavern in terms of a tourist destination - there are on site gift ships, restaurants, even a garden maze - but the main attraction is of course underground.
This 400 million year-old cavern is a solutional cave, dissolved from surrounding limestone, and is visited by some 500,000 people per year.
During the 1950s, brick & concrete walkways were installed along the tour route, which runs in a figure-eight pattern.
Luray Caverns was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973.
