Satun ("Sa-Toon") is the capital city of the province of the same name in the south of Thailand, ~1000kms distant from bustling Bangkok. It is one of four Thai provinces with a predominantly Muslim population (fortunately Satun does not have an insurgency problem). Few tourists or visitors of any sort make it to this city or province, which is unfortunate, as its physical environment is as pleasant as the more advertised tourists spots to the north.
The city is small, with a population of ~20,000, and is administered by the city government, whose offices are found in the government precinct of the city, adjacent to other government offices and cultural sites (provincial hall, provincial court and so forth). The offices look to be more modern than most I have seen in the southern region, but still follow the traditional Thai design, a white, rectangular, multi-story building, filled with hard working and conscientious civil servants working away for our good. The waymark location is the sign on the road front wall.
