This solutional cavern system was formed by water and by fault activity. Shenandoah Caverns was opened to the public in 1922 & is the only cavern in Virginia which is asccessible by elevator.
The tour consists of 17 'rooms' and features a number of limestone 'bacon' formations, as well as 'Capitol Dome', 'Diamond Cascade' and Rainbow Lake.
