Skyline Caverns was discovered and developed as a tourist destination as a result of the creation of nearby Shenandoah National Park and opened to the public in 1939.
The cavern is known for its rare formations of anthodites - delicate crystal formations, and features formations known as 'The Capital Dome', 'Cathedral Hall', 'Fairyland Lake', 'The Grotto of Nativity', 'The Painted Desert', 'Rainbow Waterfall', & The Shrine.
