Father Dickson Cemetery opened in 1903, it was one of three public cemeteries open to blacks in the St. Louis at the time it opened. The cemetery closed in the 1970s and then fell into neglect and disrepair. In recent years voluntary efforts have restored portions of the 13 acre cemetery which is the final place for about 12,000. Father Moses Dickson the founder of International Order of Twelve, of Knights and Daughters of Tabor and one of the founders of Lincoln University is buried in the cemetery along with other early African-American leaders from St. Louis.
