This church holds the Tombs of the Spencer Family- Including Earl Spencer Princess Diana's father.
The Spencers have ancestry dating back to 1508 and it was John Spencer who recorded almost rebuilding the parish church of Great Brington and the creation of the Spencer Chapel. Nineteen generations of the Spencer family rest here.

Great Brington is recorded in the Domesday book and it is likely that a wooden church originally stood on this site before it was burned down in the 13th Century. The current church dating from between 1220 and 1280 follows the pattern of the Early English Decorated and Perpendicular styles.

The village, in the civil parish of Brington, has a population of about 200. The parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and St John.

Just outside the village is Althorp, the home of the Spencer family and Diana, Princess of Wales. Many conspiracy theorists believe that Diana is in fact buried at Great Brington church - as several of her relatives are, including her father the 8th Earl Spencer, who died in 1992 - and not at Althorp.
The death of Diana had quite an effect on the village - the village pub was renamed from "The Fox and Hounds" to the "Althorp Coaching Inn" and the previously sleepy post office gained currency exchange facilities following the large increase in tourism to the area.
