The Rexburg Tabernacle was constructed in 1911 at a cost of $33,000. The building was dedicated on January 7, 1912. Architecturally, it is one of the very few Italianate church buildings in the state, and vastly exceeds all others in character, size and imaginative use of stone. The grey stone was quarried on the Rexburg Bench about four miles to the southeast and the lighter trim rock came from the Lyman area, ten miles to the south. The building was placed on the National Register on May 3, 1974 based on its uniqueness in Idaho, both in style and its association with Mormon settlement. In 1976, the Teton Dam to the east failed and the resulting flood destroyed most of the pioneer homes and buildings in Rexburg. The Tabernacle was heavily damaged, but the citizens raised funds to purchase the Tabernacle from the LDS Church and repaired the flood damage. In 1982, the Teton Flood Museum opened in the basement of the building. Today, the building is The Rexburg Tabernacle Civic Center seating 1000 people and is known for its excellent acoustics.
