The New Forest was created as a royal forest by William I in about 1079 for the private hunting of mainly deer, and was first recorded as "Nova Foresta" in Domesday Book in 1086. This is the only forest that the book describes in detail.
There are many miles of bridleways, and even more of footpaths. There are in some places benches to sit on. The one shown here is a Representative of the many i saw recently when walking down there. The plaque on the this bench reads
'In Memory of
Norman Hardy Brodie
1929 - 2005'
