In this location The mighty "Allegheny River" or "beautiful river" according to the Delaware Indians Is joined by "Oil Creek" of "Crawford County".
The Allegheny River is approximately 325 miles long and runs through both the states of New York and Pennsylvania before going to the Gulf of Mexico Via the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
Oil Creek runs through Crawford County (where it flows right past Drake's Well) and Venango counties. Oil creek once flowed with oil not only in barges but from spots where the oil simply came up out of the creek bed and floated down stream giving the creek it's name.
The coordanets for the confluence Will put you on the north side of the Allegheny and the east side of Oil Creek. During times of high water you may need to stick closer to the parking area so that you will remain safe.
Parking is available in a small pay to park parking lot and if it is full there is on street parking not far or away and another lot about two blocks away.
There is a beautiful park right near the parking area that has a bandshell, several living statues, A Memorial to all the local Soldiers who served or country in any of the branches of the military and plenty of room to sit and enjoy the great Pennsylvania outdoors right in the middle of downtown Oil City.
